All of MISA’s work begins with a deep understanding of place. For every initiative we work on, we are dedicated to bringing to the table the wisdom and power that comes from the Earth, grounding our learning and change work in an awareness of and partnership with the world around us.

Example: In 2008 as a part of our work at Hartnell College, a community college in the Salinas Valley of Northern California, we took the Reorganization Committee, who were charged with creating a new and vibrant vision for the College for the year 2020, to a very special place, high above the Pacific ocean in Big Sur, California.

As each member of the committee spent time with the grandeur and breathtaking beauty of this place, they were able to rise above the gravitational pull of everyday life at the College and ultimately create a vision for the future that is transforming every single aspect of their work.
